Labels

Everytime I try to mail merge labels from a data source, whether Excel or
Word database, the lables merge incorrectly. I.E. I get the first address in
the list in the first label of the page and the second on a NEW page of
labels with all other labels on the page blank. I troubleshooted to no end
and can successfully merge letters and envelopes but not labels

What version of Word are you using? Before you run the merge do you see the
merge fields on all your labels on the page? It may be that you haven't
replicated the fields to the other labels on the page.

I am using 2003 and no I do not see the merge fields on the labels, do they
have to be pulled into every label manually?

I'll check out the article, and once again it is always a relief to find out
it is the program, not you, I hope 2007 has better merge capabilities

There is a Propogate Labels button on the mail merge toolbar that I suggest
that you activate by selecting Toolbars from the View menu and then check
the Mail Merge item.

okay I really hate it when I troubleshoot for hours and find out it was a
click of the mouse!

Thanks!

It is not the program. It is merely that you have not followed all the steps
in the wizard correctly. The link to my web page posted by Doug shows in
simple diagrams how to do it either with the wizard or the toolbar. Mail
merge in Word really is simple, but it does have some quirks. I can't see it
changing much in 2007!
