Lack of AutoCorrect Functionality in Outlook 2007 with Word 2000

We have a client who decided to upgrad only the Outlook portion of his Office
2000 suite to Outlook 2007 (thus still using Word 2000).

Now, one of most important features, AutoCorrect, plain will not work. If
you attempt to change any settings for AutoCorrect (Tools -> Options) all of
the settings are greyed out and un-editable.

Is this a bug or a feature?

Mixed versions of the Office products have always caused issues with
integration. The only mixed version environment that was allowed was
Outlook 2000 using Word 97 (or the other way around - it's been too long for
me to recall which). It's a feature.
