Download and install FP Cleaner from
http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htm
Run the routines that delete the hidden temporary files, and the hidden
web cache files.
If there is no difference, also "Restore Default Toolbars and Menus".
This will delete any customised menus and toolbars you have, but is the
most likely candidate for the problem (I run it last because it destroys
customised toolbars - the other options are non-destructive.)

Another thing to check is the size of the paging file Windows is using.
With 4GB RAM installed I would allow Windows to manage this:

Start
Right Click on My Computer and choose Properties
Click Advanced
Click Performance Settings
On the Advanced Tag, click Change button in Virtual Memory area
Select System Managed Size

The rule of thumb for this when setting manually is one and a half times
your usable RAM, which (for 32bit XP) is about 5GB
