lag time when dragging objects in publishing view

There is a 1-2 second lag time when dragging objects in a document--I move the cursor and the photo or text box does not respond instantly--it slowly follows the cursor across the document. This really slows down my work! using office 2008 on a Macbook pro 2 gigs ram, 2.16 dual core on os 10.4.11
