Lag time

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC

I just installed Office 2008 on my ibook G4. While I like the options I have, suddenly the typing on the keyboard is out of sync with the letters showing up. There is a significant lag time between typing and seeing the result. I did not notice that on the first documents I typed. But today--it is slow.
Any ideas?
