lag tween typing and monitor

I have just upgraded to Word 2000. When I type there is a noticible lag
between the keystroke and the result showing on the monitor. I have
terminated the spell checker which doesn't please me, but that hasn't
helped. I have 120 ___ of RAM. Any ideas what is the problem.
