LAN versus wireless connection selection for AOL set up

I am trying to set up my outlook to use my aol mail. I went though the
account adding following the instructions on microsoft website. I can not
send any email from the outlook. I use a wireless connection- the set up only
lets you pick a LAN, dial up or other dial up. An error message keeps saying
an internet connection could not be established, yet I easily connect with
microsft explorer without anything special. Any thoughts

The LAN is used for wireless also, assuming a broadband connection
