Language in Spell-checker

I'm using Microsoft Word 2003, SP2. Someone sent me a Word Doc that I'm
editing. Once done, I run the spell-checker. When I looked at it, a lot of
common English words like "chapter" were underlined as if misspelled. When I
ran the spell-checker, it was running a French dictionary. I tried to
manually set it to English and ran the checker again. This time it gave me
the Spanish (!) dictionary. I checked Control Panel and it's showing my
language as English. What gives? Why is it coming up in other languages and
why won't it correct when I tell it English.

Edit, select all. Then change the language to English via Tools,
Language, Set Language.

Ctrl+A to select the entire document, go to Tools | Language | Set Language
and make sure the language is set to English and that "Detect language
automatically" is not checked.
