Language menu lost

Tommy

I installed my upgrade of Office 2004 from Office X. I chose the
languages I wanted and installed. The Tools>>Language menu is not
there.
I reinstalled just Word leaving all languages and it still isn't
there.

There are many dictonaries in the Prooofing Tools folder.

I may add that at one time I had the same problem with Word X. I used
the value pack to reinstall the proofing tools. However just before
upgrading the Language Menu had disappeared again.

I am running OS X 10.3.5 on a Powerbook G-4 with 768 MB memomy.

I would appreciate any ideas.

Many thanks

Try Tools/Customize/Customize Toolbars/Menus... In the Toolbars pane,
select the Menu Bar item (so that it's highlighted, not just the
checkbox checked), and click Reset.

Alternatively, with Word closed, trash the

~:Documents:Microsoft User Data:Normal

file (where ~ is your home directory).

Hey Tommy, do you also not have the menu item:

Format | Font... ?

If you don't, you're probably in "Word 5.1 Mode". If you press CNTRL+8, or
CNTRL+5 to get out of that mode, and get "Tools | Languages" back as well.

Hi,

Just quit Word and delete the file

com.microsoft.Word.prefs.plist

This preference file corrupts far too often in Word v.X and 2004. I
hope Microsoft fixes this soon.

Notice that after deleting such file your preferences will go. Thus it
is a good idea to save a backup copy of them because the file will
corrupt again for sure...
