Language settings

Martin Rep

In Word for Windows, Word always recognizes the language in which the text
is written. (I mostly write in Dutch or English, but sometimes also in other
languages, such as German, French or Italian.) But when using another
language, I have to change the language setting manually.
Is this normal in Word:mac, or am I overlooking something?

Thanks for your help.

This is normal, sorry. MacWord does not have automatic language
detection--which, by the way, you seem to have been lucky with. Many
people complain about the auto language detection in WinWord. :)

If you create character styles that apply the language formatting, you
can give them keyboard shortcuts or put them in a toolbar to access
easily.

Or if you want to apply the language as direct formatting, you should be
able to record a macro that applies the language, and then give the
macro a keyboard shortcut or put it on a toolbar. And repeat four
times. :) Post back if you want help with that, although Help on
"record a macro" is decent, at least in Word 2004.

Hi Martin:

You can, of course, create sets of styles set to different languages. You
can also use Attached Templates to instantly switch the language of all the
styles in a document.

Hope this helps
