Language Weirdness

Also when working in a document, the language appeared to change to French
instead of English. I was typing regular English words and they were
underlined as if they were misspelled. When I highlighted the words and
right clicked, I checked the language and it was set to French. I changed
the Set Language to reflect English but I had to do this for multiple words.
How did this happen and how can I avoid this happening again?

I have exactly the same problem, both in XP and Vista, with Powerpoint in
Office 2007. I notice that both French and English appear as potential
default languages (both are checked) when I go to the Review -> Language
window. No matter how often I set English as the default, Powerpoint always
reverts to the French default the next time I open the file. I've verified
that default Region and Language for Microsoft Office 2007 Applications is
English.

So far this is only happening to me when I am in Word (2007). I appreciate
hearing that I am not alone in this experience. Anyone know how to fix this?

The English language version of Office 2007 includes proofing tools for English, French and Spanish that can be installed.

The abc/checkmark symbol next to a language in tge
Review Tab=>Proofing=>Set Language dialog indicates only that there are proofing tools available for that language choice.

The default is for Word to follow the regional language in the control panel and the currently selected or default keyboard language
set there. Check the Language Bar settings and regional settings there and the tips here on setting languages in Word
http://homepage.swissonline.ch/cindymeister/MyFavTip.htm#LangFormat
with the difference being that in Word 2007 rather than being in a 'Tools' menu choice, the Set Language is in a ribbon and the
Options are under Office Button=>Word Options

I followed the route you suggested so maybe I have remedied the situation.
Thank you for your input.
