Laptop Stolen - Reinstalling MS Office

N

Nick

My daughter's laptop has been stolen recently.

We will be bying a new one and I have the original discs and packaging for
the copy of MS Office on the stolen machine.

Questions:

1. I plan to, and I assume I can, re-install the same software on the new
laptop. Is there a problem, given that I will be registering the same
software on a different machine?

2. Is there any way to let Microsoft know about the stolen laptop/software
so they can recognise the stolen PA and deactivate the software?

Thanks

PS

The Office version was the 2003 Student and Teacher version which allows for
installation on up to three PCs in the one house. My wife and I are
teachers. My daughter is a student. I installed the software on my laptop
and my wife's and daughter's also.

My daughter's is the laptop that was stolen.

I would much prefer to be able to reinstall it (as the third install) on my
daughter's new laptop rather than have to buy a new package.

You can reinstall it.
You should be able to activate on line, if not use phone method and explain
I don't believe there is any method of informing MS of stolen software, you
just inform Police and your insurer in the usual manner

Thanks DL.

If the registration process to date covered the allowed for 3 PCs (my PC, my
wife's PC and my daughter's (stolen) laptop) then how does it know that the
new install on my daughter's new laptop is legitimate?

Wouldn't the default be that it refused the install, thinking it was the 4th
PC?

Should an issue arise when you activate Office then you'll need to use
the telephone method instead. At that point just explain the laptop
was stolen and I doubt you'll encounter difficulty.
