Hi All,
We are using an open source tool called Jasper Reports to produce automated
report documents. One of the supported file types is RTF.
However, when we try to open one of these RTFs in Word 2007, the program
crashes and exits.
Is there a way to debug the document/Word in order to analyse what it is
that is causing Word to crash? The files range in size, between a few
kilobytes to many megabytes (the usual situation). The fact that Word does
not elegantly report what the problem is is a major issue for us as we do not
know whether we need to change our report templates, or whether it is
something that the Jasper Reports team need to change.
The documents do contain quite a lot of data. Each page has a corporate logo
on it, which from the look of the RTF source is being repeated for each and
every page, in fact every graphic is duplicated, there is no graphics data
definition and reuse in the RTF.
All of the report elements are contained in text boxes, which I am sure is
done to alleviate the amount of work required to get the formatting and
alignment correct.
Are there known limits to what Word can do with RTF? Perhaps maximum file
size, text element count etc? If so, why does Word not handle this elegantly,
with a clear message to the user?
