Word doesn't like really long tables. It especially dislikes long single-row
tables, so make sure you have plenty of rows. If you can find opportunities
to break the table (to insert headings, for example), do so. Word can handle
a number of smaller tables a lot more easily than a single huge table.
You'll find that performance really drops as the document gets longer. You
can improve it by working in Normal view as much as possible (with
background repagination disabled), and it helps a lot to split the part of
the table you're working on from the rest of it temporarily. For more, see

It's going to get larger and larger (probably at least 500 pages).
Is there going to be a problem or can Word 2002 handle that large a table.
