Large unread mail count in Outlook 2003

What causes the condition of having an inbox count of 4294967295 unread
messages? This is an outlook box that is shared by nearly 20 people on our
team and I've been told that outllook/exchange post office boxes are NOT
designed for concurrent access by that number of people..can someone be kind
enough to share what might possibly be causing this?

Thanks for your timely reply, direction and guidance..also any good keyword
searchs for finding existing articles on this condition would be of great
value, I could have sworn I did this search when this condition happened
nearly 2 months ago..but I've lost my bookmark/technet article that I
found...some type of corruption?
