Large Word document can't finish opening

I have a document that's over 100 pages long, and it's not able to get past
page 92 when I try to open it. An hourglass shows up, and I have to close it
using task manager. I've tried Detect and Repair without any luck. Can this
document be saved?

I have Windows XP Professional and Word 2003.

The Detect and Repair feature tries to fix things that might be wrong
with the program itself, but it sounds more like your problem is in
the document instead. There's a different feature to try to fix a
damaged document.

In the File > Open dialog, select the document, then click the down
arrow next to the Open button and choose Open and Repair from the
bottom of the dropdown.
