Since the latest upgrade Excel will no longer open a bunch of spreadsheets
it used to open fine!

It says not compatible or something??

It USED to open them fine.

Anyone else suffering this?

Are you referring to the 12.2.0 update? If so, could you send me a sample
file that no longer opens?

Thanks,

Pat

Sounds like SP2 is a disaster. I am not about to install it until Microsoft fixes it. It should never have been released without ascertaining that it actually worked. This is either irresponsibility or incompetence, not sure which is worse.

How many users will be affected? And at what cost to them in terms of time and lost data?

Newsflash: I've installed SP2 on all my Macs including Intel/PPC,
Tiger/Leopard with 0 - count them: ZERO - incidents, let alone "disaster".

Based on the same logical process & reasoning that should mean that SP2 not
only actually works but is perfect & was provided by highly responsible,
extremely competent people.

Seriously, these newsgroups are provided for those who need assistance to be
able to express their problem & get the help they need. From what I've read
of your various messages you're neither asking for assistance [you haven't
even installed the SP2 update, nor is it clear that you're even using Mac
Office] and you most definitely haven't offered any helpful suggestions or
solutions anywhere along the line.

Don't misunderstand... You're certainly entitled to your opinions as well as
the right to express them, but please be respectful of others & do so in the
proper venue. There are any number of chat rooms & blogs out there where
you'll find plenty of others with whom to commiserate & share opinions on
matters with which you have no experience.

Hi,

If you have noticed, Microsoft is asking for people with affected files
to provide a sample. The problem does not affect everyone, but it did
affect me!

There are many interdependencies. In addition to installing the latest
Office updates, have you installed the latest Mac OS updates? Are you
using 10.4 or 10.5? Have you repaired permissions since performing
updates? Have you used a disk fixing program (DiskWarrior, TechTools
Pro, Drive Genius) since updating?

Some have used Time Machine's restore feature to bring the computer back
to its pre-update status. That might be a good idea for you until the
solution to the problem is found and the problem is resolved.

You're missing a key point this individual is making in each of the numerous
posts in all of the Mac Office groups :);

"I am not about to install it..."

The poster has not installed the update, is not experiencing the problem &
has no idea whether it *might* happen if SP2 were to be installed... For
that matter, there's no clear indication anywhere that the poster is even
using Office 2008. This is just someone taking advantage of what they
apparently perceive to be another opportunity to bash MS in general.

I agree - it was likely just a troll. My response was meant to defuse
and be general, not address a specific concern, as there was none.
