Latest update Word 2004 and Save/Save As oddities

With the latest update to Word 2004 (using OS 10.2.8), I can no longer
save documents with the titles that I want showing up on the desktop!
I can save them internally with any Saved Titles I chose, but they show
up on the desktop with their first sentences as Saved Titles--sometimes
very long ones--no matter what title I have chosen for them in the Save
/ Save as box internally.

The only way around this I have been able to find is to re-label each
document on the desktop with the title I have chosen for it
internally-- instead of its first sentence--which "Word" has chosen for
me.

Does anyone know of a better work-around? Thanks.

What file name are you specifying, and how are you specifying it?

Please provide a set of numbered steps so I can retrace your exact movements
