Latest Version of Word 2004

I've spent many months and many hours searching mactopia trying to
find a site that will tell me whether or not I have the latest version
of word. No luck. Word help (downloads and upgrades) sends me to a
site: (http://download.microsoft.com/download) that always returns a
notice: "Safari can't find the server." Word help (Check for
upgrades) always tells me that there is an upgrade, namely, "Microsoft
Auto Update 1.1.2". But when I click to install it, I always get a
message, "The connection to the update server was interrupted."

Two questions: (1) Is there really an upgrade? and (2) How do I get it?

If I look at the Help for Microsoft AutoUpdate here, it says it is version
1.1.2 (v041011).
Two questions: (1) Is there really an upgrade?

Yes, if you are on any version of Word 2004 less than Word 11.3.0.

If I run AutoUpdate (either standalone or from the Word Help menu), and
press Check for Updates, I'm told that the latest update for Office 2004 for
Mac is version 11.3.0, dated 10/10/2006 (it's 57.3Mb). However, my version
of Word was already up to v. 11.2.6 (on 09 Aug 2006) - I don't know whether
you will have to install previous updates first, or not)

NB, you should be able to find the various update logs in
Applications|Microsoft Office 2004|Updater logs
(2) How do I get it?

If the AutoUpdater isn't working, you should be able to download the update
from

http://www.mactopia.com

There's a link from a pane titled "Quick Downloads" at the bottom right hand
side of that page. the direct link to the download page is

http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downlo...004_1130.xml&secid=4&ssid=31&flgnosysreq=True

but you may need to piece that together, or try

http://download.microsoft.com/downl...955E-AF8525575C27/Office2004-1130UpdateEN.dmg

for the image itself.

However, it sounds to me as if there is something wrong with your Internet
connection, or maybe that some firewall is preventing you from getting at
the full mactopia site.

You may be better off asking this in microsoft.public.mac.office.word where
the specialists in Mac Word tend to hang out.
