I was installing F-Secure antivirus program on my pc. First I had to
uninstall Norton AV and IS. The Norton IS uninstall failed using add/remove
programs so I had to use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to remove the
NIS.* files.
This seemed to work as F-Secure installed fine whereas earlier it had failed
because of a conflict with Norton IS.
When I tried to open MS Outlook it initially opens then comes up with
"Microsoft has encountered.......and needs to close". There is a "restart MS
Outlook" check box which is checked and the usual send or don't send error
boxes. Whatever we do from there, outlook closes.
When I looked for the outl*.dll files in the search utility there are no dll
files at all for outlook, there should be 14 dll files in the Office 10
folder. Obviously this is why Outlook won't run.
Did the cleanup utility remove them and why did it do that? I tried both an
MS Office "detect and repair" function and "re-install" from the MS Office cd
but to no avail. How can I re-install MS Outlook and also not lose all
outlook data i.e. emails and notes, etc?
