Launching .lnk or .exe type of file

How can I best start a file that is installed on all of our PC's at work that
is a desktop icon which when double clicked on the desktop launches an exe
file.
The file is a logon screen to get to our CMMS (computerized maintenance
management system). It is SAP to be exact. Is there some way that I can cause
a double click on the hyperlink without the user seeing it or is that
feasible.
I've tried creating a hyperlink to the *.lnk and to the actual *.exe file
that the lnk is targetting with no success.

For security reasons, you can not launch/access files on a local computer from a web page.

I kind of knew that there were some security issues since it wasn't working
but there is no real comprromising of security as it is a program which is
installed on all of our PC's. Also all the link(double click) or exe(single
click in program manager) does is launch a logon.

I read your two links and one other post that makes reference to HTA. Is
there somewhere that I might be able to find some examples to look at.
The MSDN write-up showed a button, but I want it to look like just another
menu link.

You need to look into active directory and using policies to do this.

Setting up the computers so they can accept such things opens up huge
security holes.

Browsers are NOT NETWORK ADMINISTRATION TOOLS. It's like using a loaded
pistol to wipe your butt. Not a good idea.
