layered slides do not advance

My boyfriend is creating a powerpoint presentation using Office 2007 on a pc
running Windows XP Pro with all current updates, McAfee AV and ad-aware.

Simple slides advance easily from one to another. However, if the
transition is from a simple slide (like a .jpeg image) to a layered slide
(i.e., one with multiple text atop a picture), the layered slide does not
advance to the next slide (regardless of whether the next slide is simple or
layered). He has tried 'taking apart' the layered slide and has brought it
down to a simple slide and it advances correctly. Can anyone help out and
advise as to what is causing this hangup and how to resolve it? Your
expertise is appreciated.

Hi geminidreamer

Is there any animation on the offending slides? If so, make sure it is not
set to 'on mouse click'.

What do you mean when you refer to 'animation'? BTW, 'on mouse click' is NOT
ON.
Here is some additional detail:
The first slide of the presentation: Layered titling with transitions going
on. This is all working fine. the time for slide changing has been changed
back and forth from 00 to 01 seconds-not effective; (All photos are jpeg)
Even if I took all the titling/transitions off the background slide it still
does not move to the next frame. I even tried to use a different slide
background and add one by one the titling/transition of that slide and
doesn't work. I had this problem once before at a convention where some
college guy was able to resolve it instantly, however, I don't know what he
did.

Hi

Animations are where things happen to the elements of the slide e.g.
pictures appear & disappear, text moves etc. Transitions are the movement
from slide to slide.

I think your layered titling must use animations - are any of these set to
'on mouse click' or are they set to 'with previous' or 'after previous' in
the custom animation taskpane? Please note that if you play the animations
in edit mode PowerPoint does the mouse clicking for you so it may appear
automatic but actually isn't. Try watching in slide show mode.

There is also a setting you should check in slide show -> set up show: make
sure 'advance slides' is set to 'use timings if present'.
