can anyone explain how i can layer in word?
i.e - i create a template with banners etc in an adobe products, export as a jpeg. place the jpeg as a pic or layer in word with text box guide lines etc, then layer word text boxes on top of my pic.

have managed to import the jpeg but when i go to scale it the full size of the page it automatically moves of the page, even with all the margins at 0.

You can't "create" layers in any version of Word. Which does not mean they
don't exist :)

Word supports 99 levels of Z-order.

However, you will need to tell me which version of Word you are using, on
which Operating system, and on what kind of Apple computer, before I can
tell you any more.

Cheers

Hello Humphrey -

You can't - at least not in the way you would like:) You're running up
against at least three considerations;

1- I'm not sure *which* Adobe product you're referring to - Adobe doesn't
make a Word Processing program - but Word isn't one of them:) It does not
support Layering, and

2- An image in Word is always "tied" to a *paragraph* in some way - either
as an In Line object (treated as a text character) or with Text Wrapping
applied (treated as a floating object but still anchored to a paragraph).
The object will always appear on the same "page" as the para it's embedded
in or anchored to, which brings us to...

3- There are no physical pages in a Word doc such as you have in InDesign.

You have at least 3 options, however;

1- Use Format> Background> Fill Effects - Picture to insert the image as a
background. However the image must be correctly sized beforehand and will
also appear on each page.

2- In the Header (View> Header/Footer) use Insert> Picture, set Text
Wrapping to Behind Text. You can select & manipulate the image but, again it
will appear on each page unless you get involved with Section Breaks.

3- Use Insert> Picture while in the text "layer" & apply Behind Text as
described above. This renders the image as a "floater" which will move with
the para to which it is anchored, but will only appear on that one page.

Any of the options above, though, may give the *appearance* you want but may
not *print* as you'd like - especially if you're looking to attain a full
bleed. IMHO, you may be better off using a desktop publishing program or -
depending on type of document - even the likes of Photoshop or Illustrator.

The following link may be helpful along with some of the "Other Articles..."
linked to from the bottom of that page.
