layout does not correspond to preview layout and printed page

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Power PC

In word 2008 my documents appear correctly on writing lines from start of page to end of page.
but if I do a print preview I see a portion of the document (last few lines) missing, and if I go to print the page the last few lines are also missing as in print preview.
page setup is correctly done and same problem does not exist on our new intel macs with same network printer installed and all office 2008 updates applied.
actual network printer is hp color laserjet 3000 series and before (now deleted) was a lexmark laser.
any idea ?

Have you checked for an updated printer driver for the PPC?

the problem was also just there with the old lexmark laser printer which now is deleted on the ppc macs since the printer has been replaced with the hp color laserwriter and the ppc macs have been updated to leopard.
fact is, that on the new mac´s (intel) this problem does not exist. or because the intel architecture or because the old lexmark driver has never been installed.
the actually installed printer driver for the hp laser is the newest available.

Sorry, but there's nothing about Word - based on your own info - that would
be causing this, so I wouldn't expect any Office updates to correct it. Just
to make sure I have it straight;

The document displays & prints OK on the Intel Macs: If it were a Word "bug"
that would not be the case - the same problem would be present on all
systems running the same version of Word & OS X.

The document displays OK on the PPC except in Print Preview: If the document
were damaged/corrupt it wouldn't appear correctly in any view. The fact that
it's only displaying improperly in Print Preview brings us back to the
printer driver or the OS.

We are talking about the *same* file, not separate *copies* of that file,
right?

Printing is done by a combination of the OS & the printer driver. The
application (in this case, Word) simply calls up the print service & hands
off the info to be printed. The application doesn't say "OK, you can have
this much but you can't have the rest." - It's an all-or-nothing proposition
as far as the program is concerned.

Print Preview is actually generated by the printer, not by the application
calling for the print service, so the likelihood of the problem being
attributable to Word is highly remote if it is the exact same file. If it's
separate copies of the file then it's possible that the copy on the PPC is
corrupt - but even if that's the case, it's the document, not Word that's
responsible for the problem.

You might confirm the exact version of OS X & make sure it's fully updated
on that system. If necessary reapply the latest update. Also, confirm that
the driver is the correct one for the PPC running that version of OS X.
Drivers have definitely been known to go bad, so even if it is the right one
I'd try reinstalling a fresh copy. Follow any updates to the OS or driver by
running a repair of disk permissions & restarting the Mac.

If you have any reason to suspect that the document itself may be corrupt
there are procedures for cleaning it up listed here:

http://word.mvps.org/Mac/DocumentCorruption.html

Some other diagnostics to try:

Launch Word in a separate user account on the PPC & see if the same file
presents the same problem.

Test other documents of the same approximate length & content.

it´s not just about the same file but it happens everytime i write as many lines for filling a whole page. in this case some lines at the end of the page will be missing in preview and print.
this happens on 4 different ppc (g5), all with newest leopard, all with the newest printer driver for the hp laser.
we tried to install word 2004 on one of the g5 and tried the same and it does work / same problem not happening.
so it must be a problem of word 2008 i assume...

Naaahhhh.... Your page margin is too small :)

The printer can't do full bleed :)

did more tests:

when using the actual printer driver (version 6.x) from hp then the following problems occour:

- preview is empty document
- bottom margins are not settable correctly: when setting them up, system claims they are incorrect and if klicking "fix" they are set to value like 44 cm which is nonsense. only "ignore" lets them set to something like 2cm. printing with this settings cuts few lines bottom

using word 2004 on same g5 does allow a bottom margin like 2cm without problems. preview and print is correct.

using the leopard printer driver (version 4):

- preview works
- bottom margin in page setup is settable to 3,7cm, every setting below does result in "fix" settings and sets outomatically to 3,7cm.

word 2004 works without problems
