LDAP Address Book Outlook XP/2003

Chad Langston

Dear All,

According to this knowledge base article:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318589

This error has been fixed in Outlook XP SP2:

Microsoft Outlook had problems encrypting this message because the following
recipients had missing or invalid certificates, or conflicting or
unsupported encryption capabilities:

However, I have just updated Outlook XP to SP2 and it still does not work
with an LDAP directory. It does not work with Outlook 2003 either. It
works fine in Outlook 2000.

The usersmimecertificate attribute in the LDAP directory is a binary
attribute. I noticed that the usersmimecertificate in the exchange server's
GAL is an ASCII-HEX text attribute. Is it possible that SP2 fixes the
problem, but Outlook is no longer capable of using a binary attribute? In
other words: if my LDAP directory stored the usersmimecertificate attribute
in the ASCII-HEX format would Outlook XP/2003 work?

Thank you very much,
Chad Langston
