LDAP Server Error

Since the installation of the new service pack I've been getting an
LDAP Server Error..

Error
"The directory server cannot complete the search. The search is taking
too long. Narrow the search by entering more specific search criteria".

Explanation
LDAP Server Error
Account Name: "Directory"

What I've tried..
Deleted recreated the account
Tested the ldap connection with another mail client (The directory work
in Apple Mail).
Changed the search timeout settings.
Changed the maximum number of results return

Any thoughts ideas and/or suggestions. Silly question (since I've
never done this before) ... If I reinstall the orginal version from the
CD will I lose my saved mail.

If this is a non-Active Directory LDAP server, it might be worth checking
the "Use simple search filter" checkbox in the options tab of the account to
see if that works. If it is an AD server and you're still having the problem
afterwards, what version of AD are you running and do you have a custom
schema installed?

Thanks for the suggestion, however there an option to clear the search
base in Entourage 2004 (Mac). Under Account Settings --- Directory
Services there is an advance options button however the only choices
are:

This LDAP server requires a secure connection (SSL)
Override default LDAP port: 389

I appreciate the response and any other suggestions you have.

You are talking about the "Account Settings" tab of that dialog. Try
changing to the "Options" tab.

I had looked in the Options tab still no success in finding a clearing
the search base option. I've got an email in to our postmaster to see
what the answers are to the questions you asked regarding the AD and
the custom schema....

The simple search filter kinda' works, I can do a search on a first
name but it isn't checking last names, so I get a long list possible
emails and in an organization of this size it creates a problematic
list.

Thanks

There is no option or button to clear this - it's simply a field. If there
is something in there, simply delete it so the field is empty.
