How do I format a number with leading zeros? Eg:00010

When you want that it remains a number, then format the cell as
Custom="00000"

An apostrophe ahead of the leading zeros will also work

ie '0000010 ,without going to custom format

Yes, but doing so will convert all numbers into text, so you can't do
calculations with them.
