FRANK PETER BOVA

Have Sony VAIO Computer with MicroSoft XP and Want Use
MicroSoft Word to send letters and learn additional
software to make presentations as soon as possible.
I have Best Buy Computer Store's www.learningplace.com
CD is to teach me how to in the interactive, I hope
neanderthal, ape aptitude or Guardian Angel-can't make
mistakes format. Can You Help get started or lead to
those who can?

1. Word does not come with the XP operating system. Make sure you have
Word on your computer. Works is NOT Word.
2. You're *NOT* going to learn Word quickly!! You can lean very basic
functions, but you'll know about as much as my 16-year-old with a driver's
license who thinks he knows everything! Interactive CDs are good, but
nothing beats a good book. Start with "Word for Dummies", then get
something more comprehensive. Look through them at your bookstore to see
which one has material on the particulars you need. You mentioned
presentations - then you'll need graphics help, along with doc and font
formatting, and probably Word Art, text boxes and maybe frames.
3. Jump in and make mistakes - you are **NOT** going to accomplish
ANYTHING significant without making some mistakes and running into blind
alleys! Likewise, you are NOT going to "learn Word" without racking your
brain over things that seem so simple. Learn to use the F1 (Help) key - if
you can't frame your question for Clippit, you might not know enough about
the problem you're facing.
4. If you do get absolutely stumped, post to one of the newsgroups -
like you did here, but I'd recommend microsoft.public.word.newusers; this
group is for those of use learning the VBA programming language of Word.

Have a good journey!
