Learning Word

I'm a novice at computers (an elderly one, at that), and am struggling to learn enough Word to produce manuscripts reflecting certain research. I purchased my computer in 2007, so I don't know whether my Word program is 2007 or 2008 (no information or specifications came with it). Can anyone advise me whether there is anything in print in the nature of an owner's manual or a "For Dummies" book that could help me? Many thanks!

If you choose "About Word" from the "Word" tab on the main menu bar
while running Word, you will be rewarded with a panel that tells you
which version of Word you are running.

Word's help is a complete dog's breakfast, bordering on insult.
Microsoft do not produce any dead tree documentation and their website
is somewhat breakfasted too.

This newsgroup is populated by ordinary people who have been through
the pain, and are slowly paying back. Great for specific problems, but
hardly a tutorial. Except for one contributor, the justly famous, and
terminally rotund, Clive Huggan. [1]
Clive turned notes he made while fighting the transition from Word 5.1
(the one with an excellent manual) to the current mess, into a highly
readable and even more reference-able document.

"Bend Word to Your Will"

Take it with you wherever you go. It isn't exactly for dummies, there
are too many literary asides, but it is exactly what you need.

1. I can get away with this, because Clive knows I present an even
grander diameter to the world.
