Left and Right margin change when opening text file

I am using MS Word 97 and have set the followings:
1. The default font for opening a text file to Courier
New/8
2. The default left and right margin set to 1.5cm.

When opening a text file, the default font has been used
but the left/right margin has changed to 4.86cm. Since my
text file containg more than 120 characters, the line is
wrapped to another line and the format has been lost.

Although I can re-set the margin manually, can Word do it
automatically when open the file.

Thanks a lot .

Zeus,

After you get the document formatted for fonts and
margins, do a Save As, and save the document as a
template. Give it a unique name.

Now, this template will appear when you click File | New
from the Word menu. Import your text into this document.

If things go screwy reapply the template, by...

click Format | Style and click the Organizer button.
Navigate to your template from there..

Jesse,

I have tried your method. However, when I open the text
file, the page margin has reset to 4.86cm and the line is
still wrapped to another line. It makes the format a mess.

The line is still 80 characters width. Do you have
solution?

Thanks,
Zeus
