1. What is the simplest way to make page numbers appear on the left side of
the footer on left pages and on the right side on right side pages.

2. How to not have the page number not appear on the first page (title
page).

The basics: in Page Setup, select 'Different First Page' and 'Different Odd
and Even'. You now have different Headers and Footers for First page, Odd
pages and Even pages. Add the Pages field to the Odd and Even footers. If
required, make the even page numbering start at 1. See
