Hi - I posted this over in the Entourage group.

Entourage?

Please advise!

Thx

Before you replace the Operating System on any computer, it is strongly
recommended to ensure that you have not only taken a backup, but PROVEN it,
by restoring some of the data to make sure you can.

Leopard is a major upgrade. It is quite likely that there will be some
problems with Entourage. It is quite likely that Microsoft will release an
update for Microsoft Office 2004 within a few weeks of Leopard shipping.

Anyone who relies on Entourage for business should allow for the possibility
that they could lose all of their email, unless they have a backup.

That way, the only surprises you get will be "pleasant" surprises.

You may not be surprised to hear that *I* intend to upgrade to Leopard at
the same time as I upgrade to Office 2008. Because Office 2008 was DESIGNED
for Leopard. And it will also operate on OS 10.4.10.

Of course, I depend on Microsoft Office to earn my living. If you do not,
then any problems will hurt you a lot less.

I have looked through the list of Leopard features. To me, they're all
"nice to have". I can't think of one that I want that I do not already
achieve some other way. So for me, Leopard is not a very compelling
upgrade, thus I am happy to sit and wait :)

Cheers

Thanks John.

In fact, I do rely on Office and Entourage for my business and that's
precisely my concern.

I thought that I might try this scenario:

I have a full "Super Duper" clone on an external drive. I might
install Leopard on that drive and test it with Office etc to see if it
all works. Then, if all is good to go, I will overwrite the External
with the original Clone, following which I will install Leopard on the
internal HD.

Incidentally, Walt Mossberg reported this morning in the NYT that he
has installed Leopard on two Macs and Entourage is working
flawlessly. Here's a link to his article:

Or as Clive suggested.............I might just wait a bit!

Thanks for your sound advice.

Hi,

Those who know won't say.

My recommendations for a happy Leopard install:

1. Run DiskWarrior - fix all problems before proceding
2. Make a disc image of your hard drive
3. Use Archive and Install option of the Leopard installer

Hi,

At last I can finally answer your question.

Leopard will not break Entourage - at least not for anything that I have
used it for. I don't do Exchange server.

However, I think Entourage was thoroughly tested in Leopard and doubt you
will encounter any new problems.

Jim has weighed in with some very good advice. And he is in the lucky
position of having tried it :)

There are some reports of users who get a "Fail to boot" if they do an
upgrade install of Leopard. There are so far no indications as to what the
cause of the problem are. The system simply refuses to start for a small
number of users.

The recommendation, as Jim says, is to do an Archive and Install, which
makes quite sure you won't get the problem.

Cheers

Hi John,

The problem has been traced to Unsanity's "Application Enhancer" program.
This *must* be updated before installing Leopard because the old version
stops the installer dead in its tracks.

Thanks Jim:

Good to know :)

Some users are also having some cosmetic issues with Spaces (and one, I
think, who can't see the Word document window at all).

Apparently there's a fix on the way for the Spaces issue (but I am not sure
from which company...).

Cheers
