Let Index entries in Word be hyperlinks

When I insert a Table of Contents in my Word document I get something that
basically consists of hyperlinks (Ctrl + click to follow link). But when I
insert an Index I get just dead text. Wouldn't it be great to have links
there too?

It would indeed by great, and this feature has been much requested. So far,
the developers have not risen to the suggestion; I think the word they get
the word from their coders is that this would be too complex to implement.
