Letters not showing up as I type

There is no cursor on the page anywhere. And when I type, no text shows up.
Closing Word and opening a new document doesn't change anything.

Is this on all documents - old or new? Are there any other messages saying
the document is locked? Which version of Word?

This is from opening a new document of Windows 2007. I can open old
documents and edit them. I've restarted the computer, closed and re-opened
Word. I found that if I type letters, and use spell check, it shows in the
spell check, but I can't see the text. I've checked font color, page color.
I can't even highlight the invisible words. So I guess the letters are
there, but I can't seem them or the cursor.

Sounds like you may have formatted the normal style to use WHITE text that
won't show up, of course. If you add loads of text, does it create pages?
Try typing in

=rand(10,10)

and press enter. That will auto fill several pages of text. If they still
look like empty pages, check the font colour setting.

I should also have suggested that they are assigned as HIDDEN too: so check
that attribute.

The same problem has just started on my laptop - using Word 2007, on new
documents. I've checked Style and also tested the different views. The text
shows on the Outline view, but none of the others.
