letters typed do not match the keyboard letters

I installed russian and russian keybord in the "input languages". My keyboard
now types russian cyrillic OK, but the letters do not match the keys. e.g
type "e" you get y, type y and you get н (n). There is a standard setting for
cyrillic on a qwerty keyboard. Can somone tell me how to install this?
