Level doesn't move tasks

B

Bill

I am testing out Microsoft EPM with Project Pro.

I created a Project and 2 resources. I assigned about 90
tasks to the resources with about 2 - 10 hours per task.

It put all of the tasks to start today. Now one resource
has 360 hours for today with 90 tasks.

If I run the Resource Availability - Work, it shows that
resource has 360 hours for today.

When I click Level Resources, nothing happens. I expected
that Project Pro would spread the tasks out so the poor
soul would only need to work 8 hours per day instead of
360.

Any ideas?

Hi Bill,

It HAS to work like you expect it to.
Let's look for possible causes.

- you ARE in Project, aren't you? you're not in some Project Server view? It
is Project itself (Pro or standard, whichever) that does the leveling.
- When leveling, do you have the option "level only within available slack"
OFF?
- Don't you get the message "Leveling cannot resolve the overallocation of
resource Whoever on task whatever"? If so, the reason is that you have
allocated more than teh max units of a resource on a singel task - and
leveling cannot handle that, it only resolves overallocations by delaying
the least prioritary tasks. Review the Resource allocation units for the
tasks, and when necessary, bring them down to equal to max. units.

By all means, if you get lost, do not hesitate to send me the file (it will
take some puzzling or a visist to my website to find my e-mail address but
it IS possible)
