Level resources

Hello,

I assigned a resource with 100% availability to 2 tasks.
Task A: duration = 2 days with priority 600
Task B: duration = 2 days with prioriy 500

For each task the resource assigned to 50% so I don't have an overallocation
problem.

The resource updated actual time for the first task, the update was 8 hourse
instead of 4 hours.
This update was only for the first day. At the other days he hasn't updated
yet.
At the Gantt I can see that the Max unit equal to 100%, so I understand this
is the pick.
At the Resource usage I see 50% for each day except for the specific day.

Now, I'm trying to level. The result is Task B start after task A finish.

I thought the project will schedule them together from the second day.

Where is the problem ?

Hi Perl,

Could you please reveal the whole story?
When the resource enters 8 hours for the first day the task becomes 100%
complete and there is no more work on the second day.
What more did you enter? In which sequence?

Supposing Task B was originally longer than 2 days, Leveling will work as
you expect providing you have "Leveling can split..." on (if not it must
finish B first, nothing to do with resource load but with the option)

The duration was only an example. the real task is more than 2 month.
The resource upadated only the first day with 8 hours actual work.
I marked the "leveling can split..." option but it still assume the
assignment is
100% for the rest of the task.

Any idea ?

The only thing I can say is that it works properly for me.
After leveling, A is scheduled on days 2 and 3 together with B.

Does it actually make the assignment level 100% for the rest of the
task? Normally if you carry out work faster than the plan on a task
Project just pulls in the finish date but doesn't actually change the
assignment level.

Have you checked the assignment levels in Task View? Have you made sure
that your task types are fixed work?

Are you sure that the sum of the remaining work on each of the tasks
doesn't exceed the 100% allowed? Sometimes subtle rounding errors mean
that even though you think that you only have 50% alocation to each of
two tasks, you actually get 100.01% when you add them. What happens if
you extend the lengths of the tasks slightly so that the assignment
level drops to 49%?

I think that to get to the bottom of this, you will have to look at how
many hours Project has assigned to these activities on a week-to-week
basis to see if that is consistent with the number of hours that can be
worked per week.

Also make sure that levelling is set to level on a granularity which is
too fine for the way you work - week-to-week is best for me.

On reflection, it's probably best to make sure levelling is NOT set to
too fine a granularity ...
