level ressources with different units

Hello..
there are two parallel tasks. They have the same ressource with diffrent
units.
For example:

task1 Ressource1(%25)
task2 Ressource1(%100).

when i try to level them automatic, one of the tasks will be done after the
other. But i want that they go parallel..
Any idea?
thx...

Hello,
The leveling algorithm of MS Project will never change the resource units
assigned on a task. ;-(

You have to do that manually: for example 75% on Task2.

They can't be done in parallel. Pretend for discussion that they are each 1
day duration, both scheduled for Friday, and assume the standard calendar
where your resource is working an 8 hour workday. Task 1 at 25% means your
resource will do 2 man-hours of work on it over the course of his 8 hour
workday. Task 2 at 100% means that he'll also do 8 man-hours of work on
that one over the course of the 8 hour workday. So if you had them stay in
parallel he's assigned 125% and that means that he's required to somehow
magically perform a total of 10 hours of work during 8 hours of working time
on the clock, a physical impossibility. During 8 hours of time he might
work slower than maximum rate and so do less than 8 hours worth of work but
it's impossible to do work faster than 100% of maximum capacity and so do
more than 8.

I know they can not go parallel.
The Problem is:
When i say task1 (Duration 8 Hours) will be done with unit %25, then Ms
Project makes:
task1:
from 8 to 9 o'clock 0,25 Hours,
from 9 to 10 o'clock 0,25 Hours,
.....
from 16 to 17 o'clock 0,25 Hours.

Sume is 2 Hours/Day.

Is there any automatic way to do it so:
task1:
from 8 to 9 o'clock 1 Hours,
from 9 to 10 o'clock 1 Hours,
The rest is 0.

Because if i could do that , two taks could be leveld automatic and
parallel. Of cource with two task it is no proble to do it manuel, or to
cahange the units. but i have sometimes hunderts of tasks.

thx....

Hi,

Why did you put 25% in the first place and not 2 hrs duration and 100%?
Why ask Project to change what you so carefully entered?
One should use the percentages very, very sparely.
25% is not even 15 mins per hour, for Project it means 15 secs every minute
(which is the internal unit odf tiime)

Because i have a lot of tasks. I can not set for all of them 1-2 hours per
day. because of that i cahange the units. but then as u said i get 15 min
per hour. but i want to get 2 hours per day...

15 secs per minute IS 2 hours per day.

Doing it the way you ask is assigning the resource 100% to a 2 hour duration
task, not 25% to an 8 hour duration task. The resource units percentage
doesn't refer to the percentage of their day that is spent on the task as is
often believed. Instead it is the rate at which the TIME they're are
spending is converted into useful WORK output, 100% meaning that all the of
the time they spend is reflected in the work they get done. If I work an 8
hour day and devote my full attention to a task that takes me 1 hour, 8
until 9, to complete, doing nothing else at the same time, I'm doing 1
man-hour's worth of work on that task. 1 hour of work done during 1 hour of
duration = 100% assignment, even though it's only a small portion of my
workday that I'm spending on that particular task. I'm at 12.5% if I take
all day to accomplish what I could have done in 1 hour if I'd worked on it
full-speed.
