Leveling on material resources

To all

Just started using MSP 2003 and have a few problems I am not sure how to
address. I have used other scheduling software but MSP seems to do things a
little differently. I have a project where I want to level my project based
on a material resource rather then time, I have a several tunnels being
advanced similtaniously and want to level based on meters of advance per day.
The meters I can advance per day would be 20 meters and I could work in 8
different headings, each of these can advance 4 meters per day. I want the
project to reflect these advances and show me the best sequence of activites
to give me this advance.

Not sure if my ramblings make sense but basically can I use MSP to give me
the results I am looking for.

The task might be "Advance Tunnel #3NE 600 Meters" with a duration of 30
days. Assign resources appropriately to include people and equipment. The
planned performance (baseline) is to move forward 20 meters/day. Each day
you would measure the length of the tunnel as X meters and claim 100*(X/600)
as a Physical % Complete.

Hi Shawn,

I can give you a very simple answer.
You cannot level on material resources.
Material resources have no influence whatsoever on the schedule; you even
can't track the availability of the material resource.
I know, it's weak, but that's how it is :-((
