leveling overallocated resources

Debbie

I want project to automatically schedule my tasks where overallocations
accure. I don't want splits in any tasks though. I have many tasks done by
the same person and I want project to automatically start the next task when
the first task is finished.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have already done that. I just don't understand why it keeps over allocating and not starting task when the previous task is finished.

Hi,

When it does, believe me, there IS a good reason.

It doesn't "keep overallocating" because it doesn't allocate nor
overallocate, it just can't resolve the overallocations you have entered by
shifting tasks or assignments.
There are several reasons why sometimes it can't resolve your
overallocations: it can't change the units so when the overallocation is due
to one task it will leave that; resources may be allocated to both a task
and its summary task; Actual Work is never moved; tasks with Must
constraints and tasks with 1000 priority are not moved..

You can send me teh file if you don't find it, jandemesATprom-ade.be

Hope this helps,

What is the nature of your overallocation? What level of granularity do
you want to manage resource's hours to - days, weeks etc. You can set
this granularity in the resource levelling dialogue box.

Can you look in the Resource View to see where resources are
overallocated. It may be the case for example that a resource is
nominally allocated for two tasks at the same time on one particular
day. This however may not matter if the number of hours worked on that
day is less than 8. The leveller will ignore this if you have set its
granularity to be week-by-week.

Can you provide a bit more information please?
