Leveling with global resource pool and server

I relied on leveling when using stand alone project professional. However,
I have not been able to use it successfully when sharing the global resource
pool and server for collaboration.

Is there a way to keep the leveling contained in one mpp file that does not
effect the rest of the files in the portfolio?

I understand that this is hiding some of the reasoning behind "global"
leveling but the rest of my group isn't using it and I don't want to impact
their files until the whole PMO is using the functionality consistently.

I don't think so. When you level within an mpp file, and then open up
another mpp file that have the same resources, the resources will be be
tasked based on the leveling of the other file.

Only if you have automatic leveling turned on, which is not a good idea in
the EPM environment.

Hmm. I'm almost positive that it had this effect on a manual level. I
normally don't do it automatically b/c it's just too hard to understand the
impact. I'll look into it a little more. 1 additional problem is that you
can't allocate a resource at a specific % by .mpp file when you are using a
global pool and are forced to do it either by modifying the calendar (which
obviously impacts other projects) or by allocating at the task level - which
doesn't have the effect you want.

Thanks for the comments.

Personally, I would never use autoleveling and don't recommend it to anyone.
You most certainly can allocate a resource at a specific % units across a
project plan, but all allocations in Project are at the task level. Perhaps
you should describe the problem you're having with allocating resources and
we can get you on the right track with that.
