Modern printers are 'inteligent' if you have a missing cartridge, or empty
one, or even use a clone cartridge, they are liable not to print.

1) This group is for people having issues with the usage of Office
applications. You question doesn't pertain to, or have anything to do with
the subject matter of this group - so why are you posting here? You're going
to say "because I'm trying to print from Office" - that's irrelevant, it
still has nothing whatsoever to do with this group - or any other
Office-related group, for that matter.

2) You mean you don't understand plain English? The error *TELLS* you the
problem. And you could have found the answer for yourself had you bothered
to RTFM.

You need the color and black cartridge in the printer to avoid the error. If
you want to print in just black ink you should be able to choose to print in
black only in the print dialog box.

Dear katie123

Please ignore the ignoramous who calls himself/herself Cerridwen. There are
many intollorent people who use newsgroups as well as nice ones! He/she
didn't bother to read your initial statement either ie "I AM NEW TO
COMPUTING". thus realise you were not aware that this group is for MS Office
tips.

As per the other postings, it is true that, in a printer which requires two
cartridges, it will fail if one is missing or empty.

In most cases, if you have a black and white document to print, the printer
will use only the black cartridge. If you have a colour document that you
want in black & white (aka greyscale), having clicked on the print
button/menu bar you should be able to click on another button called
"Properties" and set the colour to greyscale there. Unfortunately, I have
not used a Lexmark printer for many years thus cannot remember the exact
area where greyscale can be selected.

Good luck with your world of computing and remember that it is hard to
actually break your computer by simply typing things on a keyboard or
clicking a mouse. Your main hurdle will be fear of new technology. Once
you have got to grips with it, your more than likely to get hooked.

Regards
One of the nice guys who use the newsgroups
