licensing question - MS Office 2003 Work at Home

R

Red Eagle

I need MS Word 2003 for my part-time, home-based transcription business, and
I am considering buying this product:

http://www.pricegrabber.com/rd.php/...11.03~1~5~/k=f588c4b4553bb3668b4b0da916f9a726

I was told by the vendor that the product is not licensed for commercial
use. Does this mean I cannot legally use this product as described above?
If I cannot use it, does someone know where I can purchase a version of MS
Word 2003 which will not cost me an arm and a leg?

You cannot purchase the Student and Teacher 2003 version nor the Home and
Student 2007 version software to use for commercial work.

I would suggest checking Amazon.com for the older version of Word. They did
have a few left the other week. Barring that, you could pick up a copy of
Works Suite 2006, which will give you Word 2002. That's probably the least
expensive way to get Word for your purpose. Amazon is asking $90 for it.

JoAnn,

This is the "Work at Home" version, not the versions you mentioned. If the
product is called "Work at Home", can you assume that it could be used for
those who work at home? Maybe I am just simple-minded.

I did not mention this previously, but I have to have a version of Word that
is not a part of Works. This is the requirement for the company that I will
be doing business with as an independent contractor. It is their
specification, not mine.

I appreciate your reply.

"Work at Home" refers to installation of Office products based on
arrangements with employers or academic institutions - employees are allowed
to make use of the organization's volume license to support their work for
the employer. I don't believe there's any such named retail product.

The part number for the item you linked to mostly seems to be shown as an
OEM/Promo version of Office Basic. Putting aside the issue that OEM
versions are supposed to be sold/installed with a new PC, otherwise it is a
version that can be used for work puposes, at home or in an office.

Hope this helps clear the fog.
