I am presently running Microsoft Office 2003 on my desk top computer. I am
considering purchasing a lap top. My question is; can I, legally, load my
present version of Office on my lap top as well? If so, then can I buy one
Office 2007 upgrade and upgrade both computers?
Thanks for the help.

It depends on the version you now have. You will need to check the
paper work to determine it. If it is OEM (a special version of the programs
purchased at a very large discount by the manufacturer of your computer, you
will likely not be able to use it on any other computer, even if the
original one dies. Other versions of the same program may allow you to have
it on more than one machine at the same time. You should be able to find
this information in the license information that came with the software.

It might depend on the exact version of 2003, the EULA will tell you.

If it does, its not neccessary to install the qualifying version first, you
simply need the 2003 cd available to point to when the 2007 installation
complains about 'no qualifying version' - swap cd's verify 2003, then re
swap and continue -
