Lifting permission on a file.

I have permission on a file to which I have unrestricted access. I cannot
edit it or do anything at all. No one else will be using the file now. I
want to get the permission lifted so that I do not have this problem any
longer. I do hope that someone can tell me what to do.

I have Windows Professional XP with Service Pack 2. Also Office 2003. Any
help will be much appreciated before I throw computer over back wall.

Is the file on a hard drive, a network drive, a floppy disk, or a CD?
Can you open the file? Does this problem occur with all Word files, or
just a particular Word file? What happens if you start Word and click
