Ligatures in Word 2004

I've just noticed that Word 11.3.8 is now substituting ligatures for
some character pairs - for instance fi or Th. It's only since
upgrading to OS 10.5 that I've noticed this. Is there any way of
turning ligatures off? I can't find one within Word or in Suitcase or
in Font Book. Thanks.

Ooh. Well spotted!
It is a pity Word seems to be caught by surprise by this. The ligatures
and Word's layout in page view seem to be at loggerheads. In my
favourite Garamond Premier Pro, "The" now appears almost the same as
"Th e"

I have seen style definitions on docs coming from the dark side that
contain a "use ligatures" setting. But I never found any way to change
or set such a setting in Word.

Now we are worse off than before. I love ligatures, I use 'em all the
time when I can, but once again, Word's typography falls into ransom
note mode.

I had a quick look on the Mac side for something to turn it off, also
without success.
