Like criteria changing to ALike

When creating a new query and using the like criteria it is automatically
changing to ALike. I have even tried changing the SQL to Like and in design
view it is changing automatically to ALike. Does anyone know what is
happening? Could an Access required file has been deleted? I have a
database file I can forward if helpful.

Thanks

Very strange! The only thing which springs to mind is that at Office level
'Like' is set to autocorrect to 'alike'. Autocorrection is applied in form
controls in Access by default unless a control's AllowAutoCorrect property is
set to False, but I've never heard of it happening in a query. Also it seems
unlikely that anyone would have set Office up to change 'like' to 'alike'.

Still, its probably worth checking the autocorrect settings.

One suspicion - in Tools | Options - Tables/Queries tab - is the "SQL
Server Compatible Syntax (ANSI 92)" selected? If so, and it isn't vital
for the db to use more ANSI 92 compatible syntax, unselect.

That seems to work. I checked an older Access file and those options were
not checked. Thank you so much for your help.
