Limitations

I am doing research and NEED to know with the current version of Groove two
things:

What is the maximum amount of users supported for a workspace currently in
Groove?
What is the maximum size of a workspace (files)?

I ask this because I was reading this -
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/24/garden/24granite.html?no_interstitial

I want it to work with sharepoint however my company is 10K+ employees so
being able to work in big teams with groove is important. With the
connection of MOSS 2007 though, maybe I'm overseeing something. Also, what
does groove plan on doing in the future if these limitations exist? Thanks!

Hi Mark

I've seen quiet-ish spaces with a couple of hundred members.

Groove excells for smaller groups of people working together to get things
done. It is at its weakest when you need to build big brojects with big
processes.

Hi Mark,

Some food for thought, considering both technical and practical limits.

Some technical limits I am aware of :
- workspace size 2 GB
- Groove forms 5000 records
- ...

I am not aware of a technical limit for the number of users within a
workspace, however, ideally Groove should be used for collaboration in
between smaller groups within enterprises, whereas SharePoint can be
used for large communities.
Hence, Groove can be very complementary to SharePoint.

The practical limit depends on your collaboration needs. Consider the
following:
- If you are only few persons in a meeting room, decisions will be taken
and actions assigned to individuals => things get done.
- In case you are 100 in a room, "collaboration" has disappeared and has
been replaced by "presentation". No decisions will be made during the
presentation.

We have several customers (large enterprises and SMB) using both
SharePoint and Groove. Reasons for deploying both solutions are
different for each of them.
Contact me if you would like to discuss about this, helping you to
position Groove and SharePoint for the right usages.

Best regards,
