I have installed microsoft office as the administrator on my computer
(windows XP). The other user has a limited access account. When the limited
user logs on, the windows installer continuously tries to install the office
program even though it has already been installed. When I switch the limited
user to administrator the problem is fixed, the installer no longer runs
repeatedly. I need to know how to fix this so that I don't have to leave my
sons account with administrator privileges. P.S. I have already tried
uninstalling and reinstalling with the limited user account being changed to
administrator, but once I switched him back to limited, the problem began
again.

I have the exact same problem. It started when I uninstalled Offfice 2003
for Students and Teachers, and loaded in Office 2003 Professional Edition.
At the same time I loaded in a couple of Windows and Office updates. The only
other problem is that my Macromedia Flashplayer is also only working on an
Administrator account. The problem with Flashplayer started when I
downloaded the most recent update. My Dell PC has Windows XP Home.

Have you been able to resolve your problem?

I have not resolved the issue and I was able to talk to a tech support person
from microsoft. They walked me through many things, and still could not
resolve this. I finally gave up and got rid of the limited user account all
together.

Same problem. Did not occur with the original Office 2003 Basic Edition I
installed off CDRom. However, somewhere along the way one of the security
updates apparently caused it to enter this state. Uninstalling and
reinstalling did not fix it.

Note: Originally this would also happen when the limited account launched
IE. After the uninstall, reinstall however this went away.

Uninstall/reinstall did not work.
Repair did not work.
Making the account an administrator works.
Making the account a limited account again starts the behavior again.
