I am no longer able to open a specific project file that is on the project
server. When using Microsoft Project Professional, I select open, I get the
list of server based projects, I select a specific project, I receive the
following popup error:
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Line 1: Incorrect syntax near
','.

After I click OK on that message, the following error appears:

Project Server was unable to process the request.
The project is not checked out to you. Save your project as a file to your
computer, or contact your server administrator.

After I click OK on that message, I am returned to Project to open another
project, unfortunately the project I wanted still is unable to open. I am
able to open all other projects that are on the server.
Any suggestions what might be causing this?

System Details:
Microsoft Project Professional 2003 with SP2
Restarted the server (Windows 2003)
NT4.0 Domain
Project Server 2003 SP1

Thanks.
Mike

Mike:

Does your project name contain non-alphanumeric characters? If so, you may
need to recover the project by making an ODBC connection directly to the
database.

The name of the project is DEV_WEB_MISC
I will try the direct connection. Most of our project files have the
underscore, I thought that should not be of concern?
Thanks.

I have not been able to figure out how to perform the recover you mention
below - is there a doc or something that identifies the process?
Thanks.

Mike:

To be safe, make a backup of your Project Server database and restore it to
a blank database
Create a DSN connection to the database
Open Project and click File > Open and click the ODBC button in File Open
dialog
Select your DSN
Select the project from the database

Gary,
I finally got to testing this. After making the manual connection as
indicated below, I experience the same error. I also tried to rename thru
that process but it would not let me. I am able to delete the project
through this connect but would like to rescue the data or the whole project
if possible.
Are there any other options that I can try?
Thanks.
Mike
